The land of Eastern Kazakhstan is abundantly endowed with various secrets and sacred signs. Ak-Baur, located 38 km from Ust-Kamenogorsk, is considered one of such sacred places.
The picturesque Kalba highlands are characterized by diverse fauna. Ak-Baur includes numerous archaeological monuments: petroglyphs, settlement and burial mounds of the Bronze Age, barrows of the early Iron Age with rare archaeological objects (barrows "with whiskers", burials dating back to the Early Middle Ages).
Here our distant ancestors held different rites, addressed to their gods, observed the sun, moon and stars. To determine the points of the spring and autumn equinoxes, summer and winter solstice, ledges and depressions in the rocks were used. The famous Stonehenge was built in much the same way. In contrast Ak-Baur has a detailed epigraphic record.
About 80 drawings depicting a man, mountain goats, dwellings, carts and other various symbols have survived to this day. Mysterious signs Ak-Baur some scientists call the first monument of writing of mankind, others believe that they reflect ancient rituals. According to one hypothesis, the wall of the grotto depicts an ancient star map with constellations that were visible before the Earth's axis supposedly shifted 5200 years ago...
