The building houses: the exposition "Ethnographic heritage of the Kazakhs of Eastern Kazakhstan of the late XIX - mid XX centuries", departments of Kazakh ethnography and ethnography of peoples and small ethnic groups of East Kazakhstan region, a gallery.
It is a monument of history and architecture.
The building is a former tableware shop of merchant I.M. Kozhevnikov, assistant to the mayor. It was built in 1914. During the Soviet period, the Altai restaurant was located in the building.
