Nizhneturgusunsky Nature Reserve

The Nizhneturgusunsky Nature Reserve was established on April 6, 1978 on the territory of Zyryan district (now Altai district) of East Kazakhstan region, in the interfluve of Turgusun, Bobrovka and Bukhtarma. The area of the reserve is 2200 hectares . It is characterized by tree/shrub communities of laurel poplar, Tatarian honeysuckle, filipendula, viburnum, blackberry, raspberry and bird cherry.

This nature reserve is aimed at protecting valuable medicinal plant species, such as Altai hawthorn, cinnamon rose, rosa laxa, rosa albertii and rosa pimpinellifolia.

Altai hawthorn is found in the undergrowth, in floodplains of rivers and among shrubs. It grows on a territory of about 140 hectares. Yield reaches 40-70 kg/ha. Stock of hawthorn fruits reaches 4-8 tons, including commercial - 2-4 tons.

Various types of rosehip grow both in the undergrowth and in shrublands. Fruit stock - 30-45 tons, commercial - 15-25 tons, yield - 200-400 kg / ha. Rose hips here have a high content of ascorbic acid - 2-5%, which is 3-4 times higher than that of plants from other places. For this reason, the reserve is of great importance as a source of medicinal raw materials.
