In conditions when the development potential of the mining and metallurgical region of East Kazakhstan region is decreasing, the role of tourism as the future engine of the region's economy is increasing, the correspondent reports Noks.kz.
One of the priority projects of the current akim of East Kazakhstan region Nurymbet Saktaganov, who has high hopes, is the ski resort "Anatau" in the vicinity of Ridder.
The advantage of Ridder over the resorts of the Almaty region is a real winter with a natural snow cover that lies on the mountains for about eight months.
"The snow quality here is exceptional, so there will be no need to import artificial snow," emphasizes Nurymbet Saktaganov.
Thus, ski and snowboard enthusiasts will be able to enjoy their favorite type of recreation at a time when summer is already coming in the south. It's a small matter to build a world–class ski infrastructure in the vicinity of Ridder in order to attract tourists not only with snow and slopes, but also with decent service.
For a long time, the biggest problem in implementing this plan was the lack of an investor. As a rule, the tourism products offered by our region are not large enough to attract serious investors from abroad. But by November 2025, the regional authorities had managed to interest a large Swiss travel company in the Anatau project. Let's remind that this country is the recognized leader of ski tourism in Europe.
Bartholet has recognized that the Anatau project is very promising and has included the Reader in its expansion plans. If construction starts this summer, then in two or three years the tourist potential of this corner of East Kazakhstan region will reach a new level. There will be modern cable cars that will connect the slopes. And in those months when skiing from the mountains will be impossible, it is planned to develop summer entertainment programs.
— This place has the potential to become another Courchevel, — says Nurymbet Saktaganov.
