New Horizons of Altai: Direct Flight from Oskemen to Mongolia to be Launched

East Kazakhstan is preparing to expand its international tourist and business routes. A direct air connection between Oskemen and the Mongolian city of Ulgii is expected to launch in the near future.

This significant step was officially announced by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a joint briefing following successful negotiations with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh at Akorda. Within the framework of bilateral agreements, particular attention was paid to the Oskemen – Ulgii route. This direction holds strategic importance for East Kazakhstan, as it is designed to serve as a reliable "air bridge" that will strengthen cross-border cooperation and provide a powerful boost to business activity.

The Bayan-Ulgii region of Mongolia and the East Kazakhstan region share deep historical, cultural, and geographical ties – both are located in the picturesque heart of the Greater Altai. The launch of a direct flight will significantly reduce travel time, making unique natural landmarks on both sides of the border more accessible to travelers.

Additionally, as part of the effort to improve transport accessibility between the two nations, the resumption of regular flights on the Astana – Ulaanbaatar route is currently under consideration.
