East Kazakhstan, with its unique network of large lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, has every opportunity to become a leading destination for fishing tourism. The prospects for developing this sector were discussed during an open dialogue involving representatives of relevant government agencies, the Irtysh Basin Inspectorate for Water Resources Regulation and Protection, the East Kazakhstan Federation of Sport Fishing, tourism industry representatives, and professional anglers.
International experience shows that the main economic benefits of fishing tourism come not from the catch itself, but from the supporting services surrounding the activity, including quality accommodation, equipment rental, family-oriented recreation, and thematic festivals and events.
The region is placing particular emphasis on the development of winter fishing tourism. This approach is expected to ensure stable occupancy rates at recreation facilities during the low season and attract additional visitor flows to the districts of East Kazakhstan.
Participants of the meeting, including representatives of the Irtysh Basin Inspectorate, emphasized that the development of recreational and sport fishing must be carefully balanced, with a strong focus on preserving aquatic biodiversity, ensuring the sustainable use of water resources, and maintaining strict environmental standards.
During the discussion, participants developed a number of practical proposals, including the identification of priority locations for fishing tours and the organization of specialized fishing competitions and events.
