"Great Altai-2026": EKR expands cross-border tourism

East Kazakhstan is preparing for a massive increase in international tourist flow. On the sidelines of the "Greater Altai-2026" international conference, held during a working visit to China, the Akim of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR), Nurymbet Saktaganov, held a series of strategic meetings. Improving the region's transport accessibility and developing cross-border tourism were the key topics.

New Opportunities and Development of Resort Areas

One of the main events was the meeting of the head of the region with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Nyamtaishiryn Nomtoibayar. The parties discussed initiatives that will radically change logistics for travelers:

  • Launch of a new flight: It is planned to open a direct flight on the "Oskemen – Bayan-Ulgii" route. This will open up new opportunities for mutual tourist exchange and the development of ethno-tourism.

  • New airports: The regional Akim emphasized that the construction of new airports is in full swing in the main tourist magnets of the region — Zaisan and Katon-Karagai.

  • Roads and logistics: The plans include the implementation of joint infrastructure projects that will make traveling between the countries more comfortable. Nurymbet Saktaganov also officially invited the Mongolian delegation to visit East Kazakhstan.

Tourism Partnership with China

Prospects for cooperation were also discussed at a meeting with the head of the People's Government of the Altai Prefecture of the XUAR, Karimbek Mukhtar. The Chinese side highly appreciated the current level of interaction. It was emphasized that thanks to the introduction of a visa-free regime between Kazakhstan and China, the partnership in the field of tourism has significantly strengthened.

Presenting the potential of East Kazakhstan to foreign investors, Nurymbet Saktaganov focused on the unique ecological and recreational resources of the region. EKR is an absolute leader in the country in the production of products that attract connoisseurs of gastronomic and medical tourism:

  • Altai honey;

  • Vegetable oils;

  • Maral antlers (pantocrin).

"Thanks to the friendly relations between the heads of the two states, the necessary conditions are being created for entrepreneurs and tourists. We invite investors to our region and are ready to provide them with all the necessary assistance. I am confident that our cooperation will open up new opportunities," noted the Akim of EKR.
