Serebryansk is a city in the Altai District of the East Kazakhstan Region. It is located on the right bank of the Irtysh River, on the southern slope of the Ulba ridge. It was founded in 1952 as an urban-type settlement for workers during the construction of the Bukhtarma Hydroelectric Power Plant.
Bukhtarma HPP is not only one of the most powerful and tallest dams in Kazakhstan, but also the most reliable in the world (the strength of its concrete is designed to last ~ 900 years).
