Poperechnoye is the only village on the way to the West Altai Nature Reserve (30 km from Ridder), which will attract lovers of rural tourism. The ancient taiga village stands in one street, as if across the river Belaya Uba (hence the name). This is a picturesque place among the Altai Mountain ranges. From the village there is a beautiful view of the Vysheivanovsky belok (2776 m) – the highest point of the Ivanovsky ridge (Voroshilov Peak).
Here you should definitely try the dishes of the local authentic cuisine. The residents of Poperechnoye, among whom there are descendants of old believers, will show how to prepare traditional old dishes and drinks, will guide you through the most picturesque surroundings, will teach you how to prepare medicinal herbs, and show the places with the most berries and mushrooms.
This is where the region's only ethno-folk festival "Ubinskiye Raspevy" is held in mid-July, where you can take part in national games and master classes of arts and crafts, buy souvenirs at the artisans ' fair.
Visitors can visit the local House-Museum in the estate of Lyudmila Mikhailovna Chumak as well as the Art Hut of Maria Lilison, whose exhibits and master classes will tell more about the life and traditions of the Old Believers.
There are several guest houses in the Poperechnoye, where you can stay and take part in excursions both near the village and on the territory of the West Altai Nature Reserve.
It is better to arrange your trip with the residents in advance, so that they have time to prepare for the meeting.
