The "Markakol – Pearl of the East" Festival is a cultural and environmental event dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Markakol State Nature Reserve, one of the most unique protected natural areas in East Kazakhstan.
The festival will take place on 31 July 2026 in the village of Urunkhayka, Markakol District, bringing together local residents, tourists, scientists, cultural figures, and nature enthusiasts.
The programme features exhibitions, craft and local produce fairs, tasting sessions, masterclasses, a poetry festival, aitys (traditional Kazakh improvised poetry contest), a scientific conference, and a festive gala concert.
The main objective of the festival is to promote the natural and cultural heritage of the Markakol region, enhance the tourism potential of East Kazakhstan, and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving Kazakhstan's unique natural ecosystems.
