One of the most unique cultural monuments of the Rudny Altai is the Ak-Baur tract at the Kalbinsky Mountains. It is located 38 km from the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, off the Samarskoye highway between the villages of Sagyr and Besterek.
The Neolithic temple complex, dating back to the end of the third millennium BC, got its name from the hill of the same name. Those who have been there are most impressed by the small grotto, the arch of which is covered with petroglyphs.
Symbolically, the opening of the "roof" of the grotto resembles a heart. That's where the "heart of Altai" lies! The monument includes an ancient observatory with natural landmarks and a number of rock carvings made in red ochre. Around 80 drawings depicting a man, mountain goats, drawings of dwellings, carts, various symbols and signs have survived to this day. Murals of this color are not found elsewhere in Eastern Kazakhstan.
