Cape Shekelmes is located in the Kurchum District on the northern shore of Lake Zaisan. It is 52 kilometers away from the Kurchum - Kalzhyr highway through the village of Amanat.

Shekelmes is a vast area consisting of numerous layers of sedimentary rocks. The magnificent shapes and bright color of the soil together with the cone-shaped mountains of the tract resemble pyramids or some fantastic heaps. The landscape and scenery of Cape Shekelmes create an enchanting, unearthly beauty. Once upon a time, the Tethys Ocean raged on this very spot – today only the millions-year-old cretaceous deposits of Shekelmes can remind us of this. The tract is stunning in its grandeur and at the same time lifeless. Vegetation is rare and sparse due to the arid climate.

Nevertheless, here you can see whole families of great cormorants, and, if you are lucky, pelicans, which bask on the sandy shore.

Be sure to bring enough drinking water when you go here. It's also good to have sunscreen with you.
