The lake is located in the Tarbagatay District of East Kazakhstan region, 63 km north-west of Aksuat. It is 457 km from Ust-Kamenogorsk by the highway. The estimated travel time between the regional center and the city of Zaisan by car is at least four hours.
Zaisan is the largest lake in East Kazakhstan Region, with an area of more than 1,800 sq. km. On the shore of Zaisan, you will not go away from the feeling of boundless water expanse. The lake lies in a valley surrounded by three ridges: Altai, Tarbagatai and Kalbinsky, 60 km from China. The maximum depth of Zaisan is about 15 meters. 10 rivers flow into the reservoir, and one flows out - the Irtysh - the main waterway of East Kazakhstan.
From November to April, the lake is covered with ice. Zaisan has a large fishing zone. The richness of the lake includes such species as walleye, carp, buffalo, pike, burbot, perch, tench, bream and crucian carp. This is a real fisherman's paradise! You can fish here both in summer and in winter. You may negotiate with the residents of local villages about the organization of fishing.
The permitted catch is up to 5 kg per person.
